Drosera aff. lanata
DRO-081

{Flying Fox Creek, N.T., Australia}

The “aff.” in the name of this plant stands for “affine”, which is Latin for “connected with”. It means that this plant is related to the species Drosera lanata, but it’s not quite the same. Petiolaris complex sundews vary a lot from one population to another, so it is not always possible to categorize them in one of the currently described species. It will most likely be given its own species in the future by taxonomists.

The main difference with this taxon and the real Drosera lanata is that it has a variable amount of hairs depending on environmental conditions (or seemingly randomly in cultivation) while Drosera lanata is always hairy. The pictures illustrate this well, you can see the same variety having almost no hairs to being completely covered in fuzz.
